Excellency the Minister of Health, Mrs Faika Bint Saeed Al-Saleh, opened the International Conference on Pediatric Hematology at the Wyndham Grand Hotel, Manama. In the presence of the assistant agents and a number of officials and with the participation of more than 400 participants from inside and outside the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The Pediatric Section of Salmaniya Medical Complex hosted a conference from 23–25 January 2020, organized by the Ministry of Health, with representation from its officials. The conference featured more than 22 distinguished lecturers from both local and international levels, presenting their research and expertise.

The conference addressed the serious challenges facing healthcare and treatment strategies in the field of pediatric hematology. Its objectives included reviewing best practices, presenting the latest developments in the field, and adopting these as a guideline for effective treatment of children’s hematological conditions.

At the opening of the conference, Her Excellency the Minister of Health delivered a welcoming speech to all participants, emphasizing that specialized scientific conferences offer a valuable opportunity to bring together healthcare professionals in Bahrain with international and regional expertise across various medical fields. The Minister highlighted the importance of such events for learning about recent advancements in the treatment of genetic blood diseases, understanding the experiences of leading countries, and benefiting from them.

The Minister noted that these diseases, which affect children early in life or are inherited genetically, can have significant impacts on children’s health, quality of life, and the psychological and social wellbeing of their families and society. Addressing these challenges with effective scientific methods requires preparing and training medical personnel to stay updated with developments and practices in diagnosis and treatment.

She also emphasized that the Ministry of Health is committed to providing support for activities that serve as a platform for continuing medical education, helping doctors and healthcare personnel familiarize themselves with the latest medical advancements. This aligns with the Ministry’s goal of enhancing leadership and upgrading the quality of healthcare services provided to citizens and residents of the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Dr. Najat Mahdi, Chair of the Organizing Committee, expressed the pride of the Pediatric Department of Salmaniya Medical Complex in organizing the International Conference on Pediatric Hematology. She highlighted that, with the support of the Minister and various departments, this conference is the first of its kind in Bahrain, specializing in childhood blood diseases. The event included distinguished speakers from America, Europe, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, and Gulf states, who presented lectures and conducted specialized workshops over the three days of the conference. The focus was on the latest developments in screening, examination, diagnosis, and treatment of blood diseases in children.

In conclusion, the Minister of Health honored the speakers, participating companies, sponsors, and members of the conference organizing committee for their contributions to this successful event.
